On Sunday 4 March 2018 the Big Half will take place in London. The Big Half Marathon that is, starting at Tower Bridge and finishing in Greenwich, passing through the boroughs of Southwark, Tower Hamlets, Lewisham and Greenwich. Silverfit, well known to many of our Nordic Walkers, has a limited number of places available.

The Big Half aims to be truly global and uniquely local in a celebration of the wonderful cultural diversity of the great city of London.

The best bit? We don’t have to run to take part, we can do it Nordic Walking!

If you like a challenge, why not sign up and raise money for Silverfit? Not only will this make sure you have a reason to stay active this winter, the money you raise will help Silverfit to get even more people over 50 to meet friends and get active.

This could be a win-win situation, couldn’t it? You have a great reason to get really fit and healthy this winter. All the training will make sure you will get your portion of daylight, exercise and friendly company to keep the winter blues at bay. And if we all do it together, we can help motivate each other to keep going when we need a bit of a nudge.

Participating in the Big Half for Silverfit will cost you only £20 if you are a member, and aim to raise at least £250 in sponsorship. You can sign up here.

If you are planning to take part, you have 4 months to start training. You don’t have to do it alone; I plan to help you all the way. To start with: Keep an eye out for my next post for a handy training schedule, which will help you get into tip-top shape for the Big Half.

In the past months, Fit and Happy Outdoors has organised our popular monthly Explorer walks, usually in the weekend closest to the 20th of each month. To help you get ready, we will add some extra walks until Half Marathon day. Let’s do this together. With good company and fun walks we can make sure you will thoroughly enjoy every step of your training!

Over the next weeks I will also be posting tips and advice to help you get into the best shape you can be on the big day.
